The importance of skeletal construction in cleft lip and palate management has become widely recognized and accepted. Over the past four decades, skeletal surgical techniques have been refined to allow improved reduction of the stigmata associated with the malformation. This session will address the nuances of developmentally appropriate delayed bone grafting to the cleft maxilla, orthognathic surgery techniques, contour bone and cartilage grafting to the nose and middle face structures as well as adjunctive fat grafting to improve outcomes. Selection of donor sites as well as harvesting techniques will be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
Identify correctable deformities associated with cleft lip and palate.
Appreciate the esthetic and functional changes associated with facial skeletal surgery.
Identify several bone, cartilage and fat donor sites and be familiar with the harvesting techniques.
