As a junior faculty, one can steer one’s career in any direction, but that "multiplicity of possibilities" can be overwhelming. This session will explore the number of facets to the job, including surgeon, educator, mentor, problem-solver and leader. This session will explain to residents (future junior faculty) and the junior faculty of these facets and how to handle the responsibilities.

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
Assess if a life in academia is something they would be interested in.
Test their skills and build their CV to service their ambition of being an academic surgeon.
Discuss the various practice/business models that are found on the side of academia as opposed to private practice.
Recognize physician burnout and thus be in a better position to prevent/deal with it.
