Shahid R. Aziz, DMD, M.D., FACS, FRCSEd currently serves as the Hackensack University Medical Center and JFK University Medical Center Division Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Professor of Otolaryngology, Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. Dr. Aziz’s clinical areas of expertise include facial trauma and reconstruction as well as orthognathic surgery; he does practice full scope oral and maxillofacial surgery. Prior to 2022 he spent 20 years as full time faculty in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Rutgers School of Dental Medicine where he is now Clinical Professor
Dr. Aziz is immediate Past - President of the New Jersey Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and Chairman of the Section of Dentistry and Oral Health of the New York Academy of Medicine. He is also the co-founder and President of the NJ based non-profit Smile Bangladesh which provides free surgery to children and adults with cleft lip and palate deformities in Bangladesh. Since starting Smile Bangladesh more than 17 years ago, Dr. Aziz has led a small team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses on 27 surgical missions and has treated more than 1,700 patients. Dr Aziz is the 2017 recipient of AAOMS Humanitarian Award for his charitable work in Bangladesh and in global surgery. He has also authored or co-authored over 50 peer reviewed journal articles and 22 book chapters. He is also only one of 10 American trained maxillofacial surgeons to be awarded a Fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the 50th OMS to be awarded Fellowship in the American College of Surgeons and one of 3 OMS in the Society of University Surgeons.
